Description
This lesson plan provides ideas for teaching prepositions and cohesion using the picture book Paper-Flower Girl by Margrete Lamond and Mateja Jager. In Paper-Flower Girl prepositions are repeated to create a cohesive text. This lesson focuses on the language features in Paper-Flower Girl to develop students language knowledge and writing craft.
This lesson plan meets Australian Curriculum: English Version 9 outcomes for Year 1 and Year 6. Because of the cyclic nature of the curriculum, this lesson plan is useful for any year group from Year 1 to Year 6.
The lesson includes teacher instructions for a planned exploration, modelling prompts, a group shared experience, independent practice and a word list to assist in teaching prepositions. This lesson plan is based on a gradual release of responsibility model and a deconstructing and reconstructing teaching and learning cycle.
