Description
This lesson plan provides ideas for teaching Doing Processes (action verbs) using the picture book Twelve Days of Kindness by Sophie Beer. A key feature in Twelve Days of Kindness is the repetition of Doing Processes to describe actions of kindness. These Processes lend themselves to an investigation of the physical and observable nature of this Process type.
This lesson plan meets the Australian Curriculum: English Version 9 outcomes for Years 1 to Year 6. However, it is also appropriate for younger years.
The lesson plan includes teacher instructions for a planned exploration, modelling prompts, a group shared experience, independent practice and a template to assist students in developing commands that include Doing Processes. This lesson plan is based on a Gradual Release of Responsibility Model and the Teaching and Learning Cycle of deconstructing and reconstructing texts.
